Lens recs for outdoor event

Hi all!
I normally shoot sports photography (softball, soccer, volleyball). I have been asked by the softball team to take their pics as they walk across the field with their parents/family and receive recognition/award on the field before the game. They usually walk about 30-50 feet from me towards me. the player with their mom/dad and siblings then stop to pose with the coach. There is movement and not everyone is lined up evenly. I have a Canon R5 ii. I own an 85 mm f1.4 lens plus a 24-105mm lens. As much as I love my 85, I’m guessing the 24-105 is best for this situation. I don’t have time to swap lenses as it’s quick before the game. As someone used to using a totally different setup to catch action shots, any tips?

I should add this will be in the midday sun around noon.

24-105 is the best choice for this. Keep things simple so you can concentrate on your subjects.

Yes, use the 24–105mm. The 85mm is too tight and inflexible for people walking, stopping, and grouping unpredictably. Shoot around 1/1000s in bright noon sun, keep ISO low, and use continuous autofocus with eye tracking and burst mode. Stand slightly off-center so you can catch them as they approach and when they stop to pose. Leave extra space in your framing since subjects will shift.
