Lenten Rose

Walked past my neighbor's yard this afternoon and her helebores are blooming nicely. Commonly called a lenten rose around here.

Yes, they're right out the gate neck and neck with the crocuses. These things must have anti-freeze in their veins. They were up with green leaves and they had buds when that cold spell that destroyed Texas hit here (5 inches of snow) and temps down into single digits F. Those buds now open are what I photographed today. I've no clue how they survive being frozen.
