Lighting Bag

Okay so as I was searching for a bag to carry my light stand, PLM, Vagabond Mini, and other stuff I couldn't find anything I liked for a decent price. I do a lot of my shopping on BH photo because there isn't a close enough photography store within 100 miles that has a nice stock of bags, tripods, pretty much anything. So in the search for a nice bag I couldn't find anything. I work at Dick's Sporting Goods as I go to school and I found this sportsman trunk. Figuring I could rig something up and make a do it yourself case I was able to! Pictures to come! I layered it with foam and cut out slots for my one alienbee and hopefully the other one I'm trying to consume, and my vagabond. So my question is... What do you ALWAYS or MUST have for your on location travel bag?

I have this one Westcott Spiderlite Travel Bag Deluxe 4211 B&H Photo Video
It's huge, too big really but I can carry 4 AB's, tons of stands, cables modifiers, etc. Everything fits. It's heavy and long but has wheels.

Lighting is something that I "make up" for each shoot. I usually take along everything I need, plus a spare, so if I figure I'm going to need three lights, three stands, two umbrellas, one SB and a partridge in a pear tree, I'll take four lights & stands, as well as extra modifiers. My only real constant is my "Big bag o' cables and clamps" which has all my PWs, enough cables to connect pretty much everything to anything, and about five pournds of extra batteries, as well as a town of 'A' clamps, super clamps, shoes, spigots, bungee balls, etc.

I have this bag: Photoflex FVSLBAG2KIT Transpac Dual Light Kit FVSLBAG2KIT and am pretty pleased with it. I'm kind of a nut when it comes to keeping things organized and I really like how this bag is laid out.

I wish I had some spare change laying around. Jason, I love that bag. However, I had to do make a do it yourself trunk/bag because I'm on a budget.

Foam $13 bucks
Tipping the guy for cutting the foam $5

Total $38 bucks... not too shabby.

I grew up with a family business of doing sound equipment so I've leveraged that when it came to getting cases! For example, this is my camera bag: PFX1 YouTube (Much cheaper at dealer cost btw )

Anyway, I put the lights and triggers in an aluminum flight case (like this - Amazon.com: Mintcraft Jl-10054 Aluminum Case 18" X 13" X 6": Home Improvement - but with foam to customize the "compartments" for items). Then, I use a speaker/microphone stand bag for the stands, umbrellas, tri-pods, backdrops, etc. Amazon.com: Music People SSB6500 Music People SSB6500 Carry Bag for Speaker Stands or Microphone Stands: Musical Instruments

Overall, it was a very cheap but extremely effective solution for me as long as I don't have to fly!

Jaron! thank you I didn't even think to use microphone stand bags! I was looking at gun bags at Dick's Sporting goods ( i work there) I'll have to order something for my umbrella and light stand now!
