Lightroom - Best Way to Migrate to a New HDD ?

I just received my new 3TB drive to replace my almost full 640GB media drive.

Any recommendation on how to migrate my Lightroom library and other random files ? Should I do it from LR first or in Explorer and then let LR find the new path ?

I would suggest moving the photos from within LR. But even if you move them via explorer, it's not too hard to point LR in the right direction to find them again.

I did the same thing and what Big Mike is suggesting is spot on. Its actually really easy. Good luck.

1. Backup your catalog
2. Backup your presets
3. make notes of your filing STRUCTURE. really important! ( i use another drive to store my files so whenever i migrate my system i dont have to worry about this) if you use your main drive to store you files, create the same file structure to put your files in
4.install os and lightroom on your new hard drive. Keep same drive letters.
5. load your catalog into your new lightroom installation,
6. load your presets.


everything should be at its place.
