lightroom on a Mac

Is it simple?

Can I "import" my aperture/iphone library in?
Does lightroom even supply an organizational tool?

I'm tempted to switch from aperture, but am wondering about this.

Are you going to use photoshop too?? My understanding is that aperture does more things than Lightroom but not as much as Photoshop. Unless you're switching to both it may not get you anywhere better.

I was thinking just lightroom, but adding PS on isn't an issue.

My main curiosity is how the stuff is stored and organized - for example aperture/iphoto keeps everything in one file.

Sorry I can't help with that! I was just curious why you'd want to switch. My friend with Lightroom/PS was trying to convince me to switch to LR thinking aperture wasn't as good but when I showed her everything I could do she was very surprised at its capabilities.

I switched cause of the lack of upgraded by Aperture. Adobe is far better at software and the combo of LR an PS are better in my opinion over Aperture. You will need to catalog your files in folders. LR can organize them as they are being imported and once you have a set workflow it works great. The approach isn't Apple, download a 30 day trial and if it fits then I would hop on the $10/mo LR and PS photography package from Adobe.

You are really doing the organizing yourself with Lightroom. You tell it where to look, and it imports your files but does not move them anywhere (unless you make it happen). You also tell it where you want your catalog(s) to be stored. It's powerful and likely will do much more than you would ever need.
