Likely annoying corrections thread...

I don't mean any offense, but I have witnessed so many errors and grammatical errors that I thought I'd offer some help-contribute as you see fit...

Lens has no e at the end.. What's with the prolific spelling of, "lense?"

Pics has no apostrophe.. If you type, "pic's," then the pictures apparently own something.

Photos never has an apostrophe, unless the photos actually own something and you are showing ownership...

"Let me show you my photo's.." (photo is) ???

I have been out of school for a while now. As I was in HS and through college computers and word processing was just coming into be for normal people. I have noticed that my spelling and grammar has been going down hill since leaving college. Since beginning of college I had used computers exclusively for all my writing. And with auto correction in most programs. I am sure it is just going to get worse.

I think there is a free program called IE spell or something like that for corrections in forums and such. (yup just loaded it). Found 5 misspelled words in this post.

Have to remember some of us hated English in school and did what we could to get it over with as soon as possible. Although I did get good grades in college English, which to this day I don't know how I managed that.

Also remember English is not the first language for quite a few users on here!

oh your going to get flack for posting this one... the general consensus is that people dont care on the forum.. and i understand, cause i dont either.. as for lens vs lense.. unfortunatley you are wrong.. its not lens.. its both.. dictionaries provide lense as a alternative spelling.. so they are both right....

we are living in a spell check generation.. and many people (especially young peoples) spelling is atrocious..

I agree. It suggests that a lot of photographers are illiterate which is certainly not condusive to credibility, trust, respect, or appropriate remuneration if you do any pro work.

It also reinforces the old cliché attitude that the tech type courses and areas of interest were for the dummies with limited literacy skills while the academic, literate, articulate types went on to become successful supervisors, managers, and executives.

While many Europeans can speak multiple languages it should be downright embarassing for some who cannot even express themselves accurately and coherently in their own language.

oh boy, this thread is going to go downhill after those comments stsinner.. i'm in canada, so I really dont care.. but i do believe that politics are one of the topics that the "terms" of the forum say not to talk about....

however, I dont think poor spelling says we are illiterate.. i'm part of many forums, some with very intellectual people... but because of the quickness in reply, and the lack of care, people dont pay attention to grammar.. its not just this forum, its every forum... and its been happening for years.

they likely will be.. just a matter of time (not saying i think they should.. but I know its a forum policy not to talk about politics or religion)

You have not read what I have written. I have not suggested that you should not express your views, but that they are out of place here. It is part of the deal you agree to when you sign up. Many other TPF members have strong political opinions, but we don't express them here.

I will defend your right to express your opinions, even though I strongly disagree with them. Just not on this forum.

However, to suggest that an American would not be allowed to talk about the election on election night is rather simple. It's the biggest election in the world. Yes, I said the world.

Maybe we can bend the rules just a little on this profound night...
