Plug-ins are the new filters. This "recipe" combined a red/polarizer effect, contrast adjustments and grain manipulation.

Thanks, cgw. I've seen shots made in daylight with a red filter give similar results.
I just realized why I so loved film photography: I'm a gadget lover. All those filters to play with! Programs ain't the same.

I feel your pain. I once loved the Cokin Blue/Yellow polarizer that produced Windex-blue skies on E-6 films. Now, however, plug-ins offer a huge palette of FX far in excess of what filters could. Different, agreed, but way more flexible--and controllable!

I splurge on 120 slide materials occasionally. Problem now, of course, is finding a lab that runs a tight enough E-6 line to warrant the cost and trauma. I still get scan/print service done for fave 120 slides shot on sadly-departed Agfa Scala b&w transparency film. Gorgeous stuff.
