Last weekend, while driving to the location that my buddy and I had selected to shoot the Perseids meteor shower, we spotted llamas, alpacas and other animals grazing in a farm. These guys are not a common sight here in Manitoba, plus they look funny as heck, so we stopped and broke out our gear. As we got close to the fence to study our subjects-to-be, the farmer showed up and we had a nice chat about photography and also about the difficulties that small family-owned farms are facing to stay afloat. It turned out that his choice of llamas, alpacas and sheep to breed (instead of cows, horses, etc.) had a lot to do with market conditions in Canada.
On to the photos...
1. We caught this girl finishing dinner
1b. A crop of the image above for a close-up
2. A "llalpaca" (a cross of llama and alpaca, according to the farmer who owns these animals)
3. A moment of llama-bliss
Thanks for taking a look...
