geesh guys. Same house I was playing with in bw the other day and posted on here. I saw them on the porch and asked if I could take a photo. They even posed for me with the agreement I send a copy to his daughter on facebook and he would try to contact her to ask her to print him one, I guess he doesn't see her very much. Said he doesn't have much for photos either. He seemed real eager to talk, guess he doesn't see much of anyone.

Nice guy seen him out there for years, haven't really known him though occasional hi or whatever on my way by. His kids are grown gone, wife gone. He is kind of wondering if he can keep the house and dog his retirement check isn't very large and things aren't going to well for him on other fronts.
so i did one better than facebook. Told him id order him a print no charge. He seemed concerned if it would cost him anything. (actually did better than that ordered 8x10's and wallets).
Thinking he is going to be surprised.

no worries. That one isn't ordered. i did a five minute shoot and got 8 keepers and ran a quick post and put the order in online just now.

I was going to say what Jenko said.

If the old guy and the dog are the subjects, they are pretty small in the big picture. The two of them sitting at the steps chillin would or could work.

I like the old house. Brings back some memories I had not thought of in a long time.

You missed the focus on both portrait shots.

The one with the house could've been really interesting environmental portrait if you had it in landscape, capturing the whole porch at an angle ...

I do like the idea here. The vernacular, everydayness of it. Your approach is straightforward and yet compassionate. It is relatable because we pass houses like this in our daily lives, and we see people like your subject, and we know they are dealing with a sort of loneliness.

taken with the 70-300 might explain it. The first two posted are auto. only one i manually focused was the last.

i am annoyed looking at it now that you mentioned it. Not very crisp. I think i had the focus system on 9 point too. Might explain it.
Hate the idea of doing it twice for free, going over there with a different lens and doing it all serious like. and already ordered the prints....hmm.
Is it that noticeable really? ????????????????????????? its only going to 8x10

as mentioned straighten and crop the first, also the portrait ones, seems to be focus issues with the portraits especially the second one. I love the idea and the feel of this set, just a few things to iron out

Sounds like he'd enjoy the company and attention, and you can use the ideas here to nail the shot!

oh, im sure he would like the company. i don't like the idea of it of doing again though and i would have to go over there with a different set up. But on the other hand, i don't want anything i did that looks like **** going on someones wall, free or not. i suppose i was hoping it was "good enough" but this isn't flying.

i didn't even order the first one it was a throw away.
im going to see how these look when he gets them. if they don't look good im going ask him for the photos back in return for doing it again. i really just don't want to have any low quality stuff out there from me no matter what it is. im finicky that way.

Looks like you're on the right track, work out some of the technical issues and you should have some keepers. I know you did this house in b/w (I like b/w myself) but there is some interesting color if you can get the right shot.
