Look at the birdie.......

[Tight Knot]

Hi all,

Anyone know what type of bird this is? I saw it in a tree in Detroit, and have no idea what birds we have in this part of the USA (midwest). Well,,,,, actually,,,,, in any part of the USA
Plus does anyone know of a good comprehensive book showing the birds of North America?

Thanks everyone,

Bruce

Looks like you have yourself a little house sparrow! My go to books are the Stokes Field Guides and a National Geographic Birds of North America field guild

Thanks so much. I'll look into both of those books.

I have a book, but I refer to this more often House Sparrow, Identification, All About Birds - Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Once you get in the ballpark, you can look at similar species. Sparrows can be tough because there are so many.
