As has been mentioned it is very important when shooting children or animals to get down on their level. Shooting from above diminishes the subject and puts them in a position of subservience. Think of a judge in a courtroom or a king on a throne sitting above everyone else. Think of how that shot would have looked had you been shooting straight into her face with her laughing and holding the softball.
Additionally, as was mentioned, the color balance in the first shot is significantly off. Here is a [very] quick edit of the shot with a color correction and some sharpening. It's still slightly on the cool side, the softball has a blue tint to it, but it's closer to what it should be.
