Looking for help editing this photo

Hi Everyone,

I have a photo that I took of my best friends brand new granddaughter recently. I LOVE the picture in general, but I'm wondering if any of you that are pro's at editing might be able to help me make this photo even better!!!
My biggest complaint is mom's hospital gown in the upper right hand corner of the photo!!! Is there a way to remove that or make it at least blend in better?

Sadly I have no real photo editing program....yet! My daughter has Picnik that is just more for fun but I have played with that a little. I just bought my camera and a lens for myself for Christmas....So until after Christmas that is all I really have. Are there any basic free ones available online that are better then Picknik? When I am ready to purchase an editing program which is best and very user friendly for a beginner like myself?

Here you go. I did this is a minute or two so sure I could do better, cleaner job with more time. Just an example. I tried to bring out some color in her face and removed the background. I used Gimp. Gimp is free and can do a lot.

I would first look to see what software came with your camera(D3100). Most DSLRs come with bundled software for basic editing. If you bought the camera used and it came with no software you can probably download it from Nikon.

Drop the coin for the photoshop. It is well worth the money I assure you.

GIMP.org and Photoscape.com are free open source image editing applications.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 ($60) is Adobe's consumer version of the professional grade Adobe Photoshop CS5 ($651) which is what I used to edit your photo, though what I did could also have been done using Elements 10.

You might also want to consider Corel PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate but there are far fewer resources available for PSP (PaintShop Pro) and it tends to run slower than Photoshop (Ps) does.

It came with a disc called ViewNX2....I have not even opened it....Is this editing software maybe?
