Interesting framing, lovely colours (to me), loads of empty space (for a reason, I should assume).
Some might critisize the shallow DOF and OOF antennae ... I don't.

Can you explain what all the empty space is there for?

Actually, I really like the empty space - it gives visual evidence for the title. It's not conventional framing, but the image really works for me. Although, when you look at it closely, it appears the background "may" have been blurred/painted in during post processing, judging from the halo around the foliage...

Well I'm glad you like the photo, the empty space is to find a balance in the composition, there are different types of composition, some are more minimalist like this, with few elements and other are more overloaded.
I wanted to focus attention on the butterfly, occupying more or less, one third of the image.
