There is a long thread in the Beginners Forum on uploading pictures.

I've read the link and done everything that I can think of but I get an error box saying I don't have permission...

never a silly question - but yes, I verified my email as soon as I created an account

Perhaps there is a certain number of posts before you can upload a picture.
Can you host in on Flickr and then link to it here?

That link is extremely outdated. Do not try to follow those instructions.

You can load directly from your computer using the "upload a file" button at the lower right of your reply window, or use the "image" tool next to the smiley-face icon if it is already posted on another hosting website, such as Facebook or whatever.

No. There are no restrictions.

Like it and have no idea why. Perhaps it's the yellow acting as a frame for the bird.
