Loss of sharpness in Canon 100-400?

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay. Here are some photos of my settings. Also attached a recent snake closeup...it looks fine but its not tack sharp. Settings were- f/14, 1/640 sec., iso400, 100-400mm lens Does everything look right for wildlife?

It looks to me like you were extraordinary close. At 10 feet and F-16 on a full frame my calculations suggest a depth of field of an inch and a half. If the focus point is in the center, that looks fairly sharp to me but reptiles are hard to judge.

Birds on the other hand...

This is straight out of camera except that it is resized.

I looked to see if I had an image handy where I had not used the 1.4 teleconverter but this is all I had handy.

6D mark II, 100-400 mark II L (2 months old) with 1.4 TC. F10 1/1000 560mm ISO 6400.

The subject matter and teleconverter make it a bit of an apples and oranges comparison but I'm not sure this is any sharper. Also, I use AI Servo and a single focus point almost exclusively.
