I remember in my past Ethical Hacker classes of writing viruses, etc for not only PCs but Macs. In the early days IBM used to tout the AS/400 as a save environment (mainly due to the low level processor verification needed and the high cost of actually having one of those systems). Then of course TrendMicro came out with the first antivirus for the AS/400 for some odd reason .. um yeah. and then the mac aficionado's stating that the Mac/Apple environment is 100% safe. I knew otherwise but you can't convince people that have drank the Apple wine.

A matter of time mate. Apple stores I've been in have also been spouting the "Apple's don't get viruses mantra". As their use gets more widespread it's inevitable that they will get targeted, and with so many systems unprotected it's ripe for the picking.

Apple is absolutely correct. They don't get viruses.

The can get invaded with other forms of malware just as PC's do. One of the problems a lot of people both in and out of the community is to them it's all a "virus." There are viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, adware, most rootkits, and other malicious programs. OS is susceptible to some, not to others. Viruses are extremely hard, as in nearly impossible, to write for OS.

Any conscientious OS user has a virus/malware program on their Apple product. If for no other reason than to not pass on all the junk that may come through to their non OS using friends.
