Macro flash setup ???

Ok so I have been looking for a failry cheap alternative to Canons mt 24 ex dual flash setup and I think Im getting close here is what I have come up with. Using one of these along with 2 smaller flashes. I like the size of the 270ex flash units but they are over the budget. I did find an older flash the Canon 300ez and they range from $20-$40. The issue is triggering both flashes. I have these triggers but the oldest model I believe they are compatible is the 380ex. 1. How can I trigger the 300ez or 2. do you have a better suggestion. Also a side not I have a 430ex and plan on getting another 430 or 580 but that makes the setup way to big I would like to keep it to a smaller flash.

Out of interest which macro lens(es) are you intending to use this lighting setup for ?

Canons 100f2.8 usm and a 300f4 with extension tubes.

and sometimes a 1.4tc attached

With those working distances I'd probably stick with a single flash myself.
Personally I went for a RAM-Mount setup attached to the tripod collar and a 580EX2 flash unit. If you're going for a 430 that would be an even lighter option and certainly would have more than enough power for what you need.

Is the setup I copied - I liked it a lot because the mounts are very stable and durable, unlike a lot of the cheaper flash brackets which are often very thin and light metals and it also allows me the option of shifting the source of the light around for increased control over the lighting. That combined with a simple lumiquest softbox gives a good level of light for most situations.

I cant see the link (its websensed at work I will check it out tonight). I currently use the 430 with a lumiquest and stofen diffuser. Most of the time its great but It will at times create a harsh shadow depending on the angle. I liked the bracket due to the ability to have 2 flashes and you can adjust the flash up down and front to back. But I do appreciate the info and will check out the link. Thanks.

You can counter the harsh shadow a bit by putting a small reflection tab on the bottom of the lens hood or lens itself - something small and white (like a white credit card sized sheet of card) which will catch ambient and flashlight and push it back up under the subject - giving you a bit of a lift.
