Madame Tussauds

Hello fellow photographers.

I'm an amateur photographer who's striving to improve all the time, so any help is appreciated. I will be going to London's Madame Tussauds very soon and was wondering if any of you who have been there could share any experience on how to best take photographs. Should flash be avoided since it might make the wax structures look to unreal? Or should I use flash because the rooms are not well lit and will most certainly cause blurring in photos?

It's been a while since I've been there but I suggest to shoot with the available light there. I'm afraid they might not allow tripods in the "showrooms" - but you have to double check on that one.

The time I was there I had to deal with a lot of people walking about all over the place making it nearly impossible to get a nice clean shot standing away more than 6 feet (without some other (live) body parts in the frame).

I do recommend a very fast lens. I recall the lighting to be quite dim (hence the tripod) - this might have changed in the meantime as well though.

Either way, shooting with flash will cause nasty reflections on some parts of the wax surfaces at least that's what happened to me.

No idea if you could bounce the flash off of another surface close by but I doubt that you will have big white sheets placed nicely around you to bounce off the flash producing a neutral light...

No, no! Actually it did help! I was actually gonna use flash and I don't think I'd have noticed the reflections on screen so thanks for that! Time to make sure my hand is steady!
