Maha/Powerrex charger query - is yours haunted?

Soo I've got one of the standard 8 cell power chargers from Maha/Powerrex. This is my second one, my first was their great 4 cell charging and reconditioning unit that I still use. I got the 8 so I could charge up 2 sets of batteries at once (or one full Pixel Power pack in one go).

Now I know this unit makes a clicking/ticking sound when charging, the instructions that come with it even state that. But mine clicks when its not charging. In fact its sat on my desk for the past month without the cable connected to it and it still clicks at least a few times a day (often in the evening).


Soo is this normal? Is my unit haunted (no seriously this isn't a prank thread even though its that time of year); is it faulty; am I hearing things ?!
