Do you have any experience wiith an old Manfrotto 055 PRO ? How good/bad is it for an amateur enthsiast?

They're bomb-proof. For me, Manfrotto's huge value advantage is the availability of parts and service in the unlikely event anything should break/get lost. Cheapo/no-name tripods don't offer that.
