Lately, CS5 has stopped displaying these around a selection, showing only a solid line. I find the movement useful to keep track of selections. I searched this online, but found some suggestions involving menu items that don't appear on my menus (Mac version, if that makes a difference) or other things that just didn't make sense to me. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how to fix this?

Try this, you may need to reset some tools. Click on a tool then follow the menus - I have the Mac version so hopefully this works for you. After the drop down menu, hit the little gear.

I saw this in my search, but I don't get how it works. Does resetting any tool fix it or do I have to go through and reset them all (even the ones I don't use) in the hope that something will change?

I'd try clicking on the 'reset all tools' then shutdown PS and restart it.

Before trying anything, I decided to restart PS and that fixed the problem.
