I would prefer the B/W as well, but if you are going to go the selective color route I agree with Karri that you should have the yellow continue rather than stop partway down the road.

Color stops for a bit because its right at the entrance to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park and it has been worn down, guess I could put it in myself but I'm a photoshop n00b!!
I think selective coloring has to be very carefully considered. I'm also from the old school practice of standing back from your photo so that you loose the detail and can only see the principal compositional elements.
This photo has a lot of dark heavy shapes in it. The yellow stripe overwhelms the rest of the shot. That said, in this case I like the yellow stripe as it pulls the eye through the different elements of the photo and is an interesting shape itself. In my opinion, what you need to do is adjust it so it's more a part of the whole composition and not fighting the rest of the shot. I think you need to pull down the saturation and possibly they luminosity of the yellow quite a bit. Yellow is a really bright color against the B&W so a very little goes a ling way.
I adjusted the over all vibrance and the saturation and luminance. I think the strip now looks more like it's a part of the scene and not on top of it. stripe.jpg by chamelion65, on Flickr
