Yep - two pairs of legs per segment (four legs) is a millipede; one pair each is a centipede.

My cat ate a millipede once, it must have tasted pretty bad, she foamed at the mouth for about 30 minutes.

Jeff they can not bite like a centipede but they can emit an acid from the surface of their bodies that makes them un tasty to birds and probably made your cat sick.
