Sadly you are right - awful conditions, very poor light in places and sometimes good light and you are trying to take photos of stuff flying.
With these ones I should have used a slower speed, I was probably thinking I had better conditions. (Of course with a 600 mm lens and freehand low shutter speed has risks as well.

No I'm not sure and I agree about Google but my photo of that bird was identified as such at Bird Identification Q&A, I'm going to search it again.
