This and the other of your desert shots that I remember just don't say desert to me. In my mind deserts are hot (I know, not always). But the very blue treatment you have makes it look like someone walking across a snowfield in Siberia. It is a very cool feel to the image. Just too much confliction for me.

As far as composition, I would have pushed the subject lower and left, then balance it with the tree in the upper right.

I feel like the picture is a bit compressed and distorted. The fore and background distract from the subject and I get a bit lost.

tough call. if you balance it like already mentioned and crop it, you might lose part of the effect of having the empty space. And it looks questionable if it is cropable to that extent. Not sure have to see it.
I actually like the blue. I like the photos cool look. it doesn't have to look like a desert to me. Perhaps you could think about it, and make some changes but in premise, this works for me at least. The person stands out, but just enough.

Thanks for the comments.

I emphasised the horizontal lines to create a bit of space round the subject and deliberately left the lighter bits near the tree to create some more depth.

This desert is beige and boring with bits of grey rock, hardly the most inspiring vista but thats what draws me to it. That is the only tree for miles.

The blue look just seemed to fit the pic.
