Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I have been playing with the AI Image editor now built into the Google search page.
Example 1
This is my original:
Autumn.webp

And this is the AI enhanced version:
Autumn_01.webp

This took about 8 seconds and placed a deep mistrust of any photograph in me.

Notice the AI version has the same EXIF data.

Comments welcome.

Is the added spider at least endemic to wherever the photo was taken and does it make those kinds of webs?
Yes that spider is a type native to UK, name escapes me....

Its actually quite a good edit. There is a loss of overall sharpness and contrast but unless you see them side by side you would not notice anything wrong with the AI version.

I added an extra step of creating a new layer on the first version containing the AI image and exporting again. This leaves the EXIF data intact on the new AI image.

Would a competition judge notice??

Which bird was added?

Was the spider asked for or added by AI without instruction?

Getty Images lists over 12000 fake animal stock images online. Getty!
Ever since photographs became a collection of 0s and 1s printed on paper, I've developed a healthy appreciation for less than perfect photographs. I imagine AI could fake those too, but at least as a photographer I can relate to what images looked like and were back in the days of slide film, or grainy black and white with perhaps dust and scratches.
I remember seeing an exhibit of Ansel Adam prints at the local Art Museum, and marveling at the retouching of some spots in one image. One could literally see the brush points, if you knew what to look for. Retouched. And yet, a masterpiece.
That's why I still shoot film. You could cheat a bit with film too, but it was harder.
And yes, all these great magical images of wildlife caught in perfect light, perfect focus, showing microscopic details from 50 meters away.... I hate to say it, but it all becomes suspect too, once AI images become so prevalent and easy to create.
But I understand the same is becoming of wedding photography too, right? AI can fix bad photos?
An image comes to my mind. Decades ago there was an image of a famous black model and singer, made up of stitched up digital parts.... I may have the name wrong, but was Grace Jones her name?
Anyhow, some like fake images. now. (Just an opinion from an old man, folks.)
0s and 1s.

The spider was a requested. The location / type of spider / orientation / BW and size were all AI inputs.

My biggest bugbear is the "photo" of a Kingfisher diving vertically into water, with the tip of the beak just touching the water at a perfect 90 degrees with the perfect reflection with three ripples. All in perfect focus / lighting / background with a shutter speed of around 1/20000 sec.

I was just trying to show people that these tools now exist for free on Googles home page.
