So here is my first successful panorama, the view from the ferry leaving Oban. Needless to say it took a wee while to figure out how to do it without my computer refusing to play!

I'd welcome some C&C or any comments on this

I don't know what's going on here but it seems to me like you've over processed the image and that ruins it for me. Is this some sort of HDR attempt?
What steps did you take in your processing?

I'd say the stitching is done well, composition is okay.

Hi mate and thanks for the reply. It's not an HDR attempt, though there was a wee bit of haze that day so I was trying to get the mountains a bit clearer in post.

What I did in pp was:

Boost the exposure up +1.25 and put an ND filter on down -1.25 stops on the sky and the mountains. (when I took the originals I had to underexpose the sea and foreground to not blow out the highlight in the clouds so was trying to even it up a bit. I adjusted the temperature (+12) a wee bit and the tint (-7) to make it look less blue and a bit closer to the actual colours of the grasses and heather. I adjusted the clarity (+100), fill light (+17) recovery (+71) and contrast (+19). I pushed the Vibrance up (+41) and I suspect the last few steps is where I may have pushed it too far. I then tweeked the tone curve very slightly at the highlights and shadows to produce an s curve that's just slightly non linear. Sharpened and boosted noise reduction and then exported to jpeg.

The clarity will have been what would suggest tone mapping. To my eyes, looking at the 2048px size on your flickr, it looks too wide and not tall enough, which gives it the impression of being stretched. It just looks a little uncomfortable.

The clarity will have been what would suggest tone mapping. To my eyes, looking at the 2048px size on your flickr, it looks too wide and not tall enough, which gives it the impression of being stretched. It just looks a little uncomfortable.

Thanks mate, the next one I do I'll shoot at a longer focal length to hopefully give the mountains more vertical space. I'll also cut down the number of pics as I agree it is too long and thin, especially for display on a screen.

So how are you going to frame it

I was thinking I could sell it to the tourist board and the could put it on a bendy bus! :-D mind you I could allways just get it printed on a roll of wallpaper and put it round 3 walls in my living room!!
