Director Tomas Alfredson was too concerned with the intricacies of his camera-work, shot framing, and artistic cinematography to trouble himself with providing a cohesive narrative to his audience. The film as a whole is two hours of snail-paced drama that incoherently jumps from past to present, from one setting to the next.. The film is largely inaccessible.

Gary Oldman as the lead role exhibits few human traits, leading me to liken him to a robot. But in fairness this nestles quite nicely into the emotional void that is this film. The directors stylistic choices became narcissistic and overbearing. The big mistake by Alfredson was assuming the audience would care without giving even a shred of a reason to. At the end of the film, I found myself completely indifferent to the events of the 2+hours I had just witnessed on screen. I understood enough what had happened, but I just didn't care.

I saw a one-word review of that film...the word was "Ugh!"

Fair enough. I saw it advertised at the local indie cinema, but I hadn't gone to see it yet.

Looks like I won't be going to see it at all.
