My little sister was diagnosed with Rhuematoid (sp) arthritis at the age of 18. Since then, she has suffered the effects of this terrible disease. Struggled through cancer twice (caused by the medication she is taking for the arthritis), and has gained weight because this terrible disease has taken away her ability to be as active as she once was. During this journey, she found a miracle drug that has made it possible for her to take back her active life. She lost 40 pounds, and in support of his wife, her sweet husband started dieting as well and lost 100 pounds. When she reached her goal, she called me up and booked a portrait session for her family, paying me to drive the 500 miles to the town she lives in, which I would have done for free-of course!

Here is her session!

incredible story! I think you did decent job. Some of the skin smoothing is over the top. #10 for example.

Thanks Schwetty, I run portraiture on a separate layer, and pull it back to around 50% opacity. I wonder if that one didn't get pulled back . . . I think the particular action I used on the set (she asked for the hazy look that is really starting to trend) smooths the skin out a bit more as well. I might skip portraiture all together when I use this action????

Beautiful photos, beautiful story. I love this set! Only one critique, in #8 I would edit his glistening snotty nose :)

Obviously didn't smooth the boogers out of that one!! I'll have to give that one a quick re-edit! Thank you!

Maybe not as much? Also I would delete the skin smoothing on dudes. So when you are on 2 layers, delete the skin smoothing on the guys using eraser.

Yeah, I created my own action that duplicates the layer, runs portraiture, adds a mask. Then all I do is play with opacity and erase out what I dont want smooth. Usually guys I still use it because it also evens out skin tone, but I paint it out more than on the girls.

I always love your work :)

Thanks for posting #4, as a new photographer I recently got a capture that was fantastic but... there was hair across the eye. This picture you shared gives me some hope in that apparently it does happen to others too, lol. Thanks :)

I like the sister on the left on image 6 and I also like the guy on the right of image 6 that has a "I dare you to try something" look, lol. Nice shots.

Image #3 is my favorite but I would have preferred a portrait orientation or at the least, the wasted dull space on the right takes away from the warm gushy feeling I get.

Personally, the composition seems off on almost all the images for me. I see that there is some tilt to the image while others are corrected. I'm pretty sure this is to your composed shot being real tight. Maybe back it up a little next time because you can always crop down an image but you can't get anything back. Just some thoughts but I like the bunch.

These are only opinions and hopefully I didn't come off harsh or anything. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
