I would rather have a Vivitar 285 HV flash and a Nikon SC-28 cord.

It's always a struggle for me NOT to plug this unit in every single post I make. I got nuthin but love for my Vivitar. You need to think slightly harder to use it in Auto mode than you do with a TTL flash (I think) but not all that much harder, and it's $85.

Even better are the old SunPak 3 and 5 hundred-series 'hammer-head' units. 'AA' battery or mains operation, built-in 1/4-20 mount, GNs of 125+ (as good or better than some monolights!) and built like friggin' tanks. Oh yeah, and cheap too; like borscht! My last two I got for $40/each!

I had a sunpak until an exploding battery ate it That was a sad sad day.

Don't leave batteries in your electronics when you're putting them on the shelf for a few months, everyone!
