My best and favourite shot

Hold your horses it's not been posted that long, the best thing obout the shot is the background it looks like you shot at F1.8 which gave you a small depth of field which is why it is soft (slightly out of focus) it could be shutter speed but i can't see the exif to check

It's a nice enough shot. I think it would be much stronger if you cropped out most of the bloom on the LH side and then cloned away any remainders from it, leaving just the main one.

Didn't they tell you that you need to get the model's eyes in focus? ;)

A couple of observations: the bee seems to be the focus of attention, and it's a bit on the dark side. The background is fairly distinct, and therefore dimishes the impact of the flower/bee area.

I would agree with tirediron regarding the cropping. Generally for closeups of insects, I use an off-camera flash (sometimes two) to get enough light in the area of interest, and to reduce the effects of subject movement/camera shake. The depth of field in macro is usually very thin so getting the focus is a challenge. I use a tripod and pre-focus on the place where I expect the insect to be and.... wait.... Oh, and during the setup of the shot, I usually try to get the background as neutral (or at least not competing) as possible.

A photographer friend of mine claims he gets his photos of insects by spraying them with a very fine mist of water - then they sit there, wiping off the droplets before they fly off again. Haven't tried this successfully (my spray bottle does do "fine" spray), so I pass this on as a tip that may or may not work for you.

Lovely shot my friend :thumbup:, happy clicking

Nice Shot! :thumbup::thumbup:

Beautiful flower, lovely colors. A bit of lightening up of the bee if possible would be nice, as would cropping off some of the greenery on the right hand side.
