Very new to photography. CC needed please!!!

Sonic, these both have a hard line shadown on his face that is not pleasing. These look like photos taken with a phone and then processed with instagram filters.
 
Thx for your input Ronlane. Actually they were taken with a Canon 650D 18-55 then processed with lightroom. How can I avoid the shadow on the face in this kind of settings?

Fill flash will get rid of the harsh shadows.
