I quite like them actually. I think #1, 4 and 5 (Despite the fact he looks like hes about to slide down out of frame along with his toe) are the best of the bunch. Photo 2 would have been good if the dog was looking at the camera, or the photo was taken a a better angle like #4. Photo 3 would be a good one if it was slightly less underexposed.

With any pet, especially a small one, photographing them at eye level makes for a much better and more pleasing composition. In several of your pictures, the head actually looks bigger in relation to the body then it is. The last picture you're lower, and the resulting picture is the best of your set. You did manage to clip off the bottom of one paw.

Don't shoot down on him, get down on his level. At or below eye level is best. The last one is really tilted to.

Edit ... Sorry, Joel. We posted the same thing at the same time.

Scott, great minds tend to think alike

yeah i noticed after that i cut his paw off :( , ill try again getting down to his level see how that turns out. Only thing is i like the blackish floor as a back ground ill see how it goes though. Thanks for the tips

Which do you think is a better photograph of a pet, your first one or mine? Getting down on their level makes a world of difference.

Scott - can you tell me how you lit this image?

Nothing special, Rosy. Just an SB700 speedlight in my hotshoe angled up and over my shoulder so it bounced off the wall and ceiling behind me.

It's a her, and you'd have a fight on your hands. She is my special girl and means more to me than just about anything.

enjoy her, she is beautiful...take more pictures of her!! HAPPY FOURTH SCOTT!!

She HATES to have her photograph taken. I do have a lot of her but I have to fight her each and every time. I normally have to catch her asleep, get focused and ready, and then wake her up for the shot. We have another cat that's the exact opposite. He loves to have his photo taken and will usually sit perfectly still until I get the shot.

Happy Fourth to you and all the other members here as well.
