I'd love to hear some feedback on this shot! I think I like the 2nd version better. Less wintery, but more distinct.

I like it but it feels like its missing something. Im curious to see the original unedited photo...

For me it's missing something to really anchor the shot and the horizon basically just intersects the middle of the frame.

As to which, #1 for sure as I like the wintery look to this scene. I've done a diagram of your image, which is different from an edit in that I want to show why I disagree as to missing elements where a simple crop off the left side will provide all the anchoring this image needs - well, for me anyway.



Where the top green line and left vertical green line and two red lines intersect, is pretty dang close to your primary focal point. Cutting off a bit off the left side of the frame will push the left quadrant to almost dead atop that one tree grouping sticking up above the quadrant line. I used the rule of thirds for a guide in this case as it is the most predominately used format and easiest to understand. The horizon line as can be clearly seen here is on level with the top third quadrant line, not in the center. My biggest tic with the image is the overly bright area of clouds between the op center lines - a bit overexposed.

For me, almost all the elements and principles of design are incorporated into this composition. The color is quite lovely (though I think you could tone down the sky a tad), as is the feel of the cold, the movement of air and the sun on your face.
