What's new

My first DSLR

Flip a coin, then buy the canon, it's easier to get natural colour when processing the raw, but they are both great cameras.

get the 18-55 then when you decide you love taking pictures get the 80-200. the more a lens has to do the more compromises have to be made. Thats why they still make prime lenses.

thanks for the answers!
So no problem with the formats!

Another question that came out: Will my old 35mm film reflex lenses still work (bayonette)?

which kind?

I don't know :( ... They are an Olympus and Konica Minolta objective with the same kind of bayonet mount (for a Olympus OM10 35mm)

It is possible to adapt them on Canon and 4/3 (Olympus, Panasonic) with cheap adapters, but of course you will have to focus manually, and work stop-down. Do not consider it a priority (although sometimes it makes sense).

Are you talking about something like this? Olympus OM lens for Nikon cameras

It seems that i could use them also on Nikon

thanks

I checked the prices on a store... I'm figuring out what fits to my wallet... and the choise seems to be between Nikon D3100 and Canon 450D...
Both passed the handling test
What should I do?
Is the different way of capturing light and obtaining natural color from RAW so drastic?

uh... sorry I forgot it! Which kit is best to buy? The 18-55mm or the 18-105mm?
Is the 18-105 absolutely better than 18-55 or the 18-55 is better in some situations? I mean, if i had the 18-105 would be pointless buy a 18-55?
I'd like to be sure expecially about the lenses because seem to be the most expensive part of the equipements and I'm not going to spend other money after the camera kit. :lmao:
Thanks!

My first lens was the kit 18-55mm that came with my old Rebel, and it's served me just fine, though I'm now looking into a more versatile "walkaround" lens, in the range of approx 18-12mm. I'd love to play with Canon's 18-105. Try looking up that particular lens on Amazon and checking out what people have to say about it after using it. (any irregular distortion, excessively loud, slow, older, less effective AF?)

If it's highly reviewed, it seems that would nullify the need for the 18-55mm.

You could but modifying the lens, and not as cheap as I meant. You have to modify each lens, and for 60 euro/each, it is slightly expensive.

I was talking of things like this: Olympus OM Lens to Canon EOS EF 50D 40D 60D 5D Adapter su eBay.it Lens Accessories, Lenses Filters, Cameras Photo
You may find something similar for Nikon but including a lens , so that image quality will decrease.

really 450D is still so expensive? In this case I would go with d3100 that is much newer. I suppose both on par with lenses.

450D is actually a bit cheaper about 400€ with a 14-42 mm lens while D3100 is 580€ with a 15-55mm lens and 500D with 15-55 is 650€...
but i just noticed that there's is another model in the middle: canon 1000D 500€ with 15-55... but it's 10 mp.

So I update my question: What should i choose between Nikon D3100 and Canon 1000D or eventually Canon 500D?
Does the Canon 550D really worth the 200€ more than the D3100?

thanks, i'm being so annoying with my questions and my bad english

mmm... some confusion here :) .
Canon and Nikon kit lenses are 18-55mm; 14-42mm is typical of 4/3 (Olympus). Kit lenses for Canon and Nikon come in non stabilized and stabilized versions (IS for Canon, VR for Nikon); stabilized are better, at least in the case of Canon also optically.
In Canon line, 1000D<450D<500D<550D (although 1000D is still selling, middle numbers are out). By the way, 1000D might be found for less than 400€; 550D now online goes for about 700€ (and 500D is about 560€).
While one year ago the basic choice was D3000 vs. 1000D and the latter was better in reviews, D3100 is a really good step from Nikon (I often read these reviews: Nikon D3100 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review ). Compared to 550D, the lower price make it better for me. However, I would also look to D5000, if you are not interested in full HD.

Regarding d3100 vs 550D, here there is a summary of differences: Nikon D3100 vs Canon EOS 550D (Rebel Ti2) | Digtal Camera Reviews - The Imagery Resource! (add also that d3100 has no bracketing, so if you are interested in HDR, you have to do it manually; bracketing is available in all Canons and d5000 too).

In summary, any of these is good for learning. The least expensive let you save money for other extras (a second lens, a flash). The most expensive are also good for full HD video (with slight edge for 550D, which has external mic input).

yes... i'm interested in HDR and not so much in videos
