My First Flower Shot

I know it may be typical, but its my first one. Looking for a critique.

In my humble opinion, Your photo is very nicely laid out, the flower is tack sharp and very pretty! One thing I think could be done to make it even nicer is to bump up the levels and a little push on the Saturation might really make it POP.

Let's see what you think of this little bit of editing:

I bumped the Levels up by 10 and then the saturation by 10.

Actually, most of the time it is far better to take a photo following the rule of Thirds.

Rule of Thirds

Using this rule is not hard and fast, but it does help the photo gain beauty, depth and character. Sometimes we need to just throw out the rule of thirds in order to capture the photo of the subject and to fit the situation.

I think that's a bit much in the way of saturation. Without so much saturation, that edit would definitely be much better than the original.

Upon looking at what I did with the edit I absolutely have to agree with you on the saturation! :banghead:
