Not one of the big boys that always seem to be out of reach, but hey, I'll take it. Just wish the weather was a little better, I was really struggling for light.

Beautiful Heron it is as well. Fine shots and perspectives. Here we really only have the white faced Heron which is large, so these I would love to see. Excellent and congrats on your fist Heron shots, feels great when we get a new species, well done you :)

All the best and fine work.

Danny.

My daughter would love his hair doodads! Haha. What species is he? We have Great Blue Herons here, all over. I can't wait to get out this spring to get some shots of those guys.

Yes I believe its a Black-Crowned Night Heron. I'm still a complete noob to birding so I may stand corrected, but it seems to fit the bill. From what I gathered it is pretty early in the year to be seeing them here, and fairly unusual to see him completely alone in the middle of the afternoon.
There is a wetland area I go to often that I've seen a great blue twice, but he always stays out of reach. Plus the EPA has mandated that we can't go within 20 yards of the shore at the wetlands, so perspective is hard too. But this was just at a park area, so I could go right down to this guy. No aquatic life at all in the actual water at this particular park, but this guy seemed content chasing insects around the rocks.
