My first shots ever in black and white. need help

i shot these with a d90 im huge into car photography so i branched out into this field and tested it out. Im pretty clueless when it comes to black and white and i could use the help thanks guys!

The in-camera feature is actually called Monochrome, but has 3 options B&W, Sepia, and Cyanotype. Plus using the in-camera feature reduces the file to an 8-bit tonal depth.
Eventually people discover they have a lot more control and can produce better looking images if they shoot in color and convert to one of those 3 choices outside the camera.

Contrast control is a goal for B&W photos. The in-camera feature offers only crude controls.

You don't allow edits so, as an example I shot this using a blue gel on a speedlight, with the intent to convert it to B&W. In the conversion process I used a Photoshop B&W Adjustment layer and mostly adjusted the blue channel, but the B&W adjustment layer allows adjusting 7 colors. I also made Exposure and Curves adjustments, and did some dodge and burn:
