Just a quick snap from tonight. It's rare to get a relaxed shot from my kids anymore, I caught her by surprise with this one.
It used to be so much easier when they were younger. It really makes me appreciate it even more when I get a natural pose or smile from either of 'em.

Couldn't decide between the color or b/w, so I'm posting 'em both.

Bounced flash, f/4.0, 1/200, ISO 100

CC always welcome, just keep in mind that this was an unplanned, 2-minutes-with-the-camera, snap.

I catch my wife by surprise with the camera sometimes as well...

This isn't a snapshot.
It may have been taken quickly but I think it is quite nice and certain keeper - truly sharp, nice framing, nice expresion
I prefer the BW if only because the pinks overwhelm her face in the first and her color looks a bit off

I prefer the color as well, it was just the pink jammies which tempted me to convert this one.
So glad to hear that you are all in agreement.

Lew - I appreciate your taking the time to play. But she actually has a very light skin tone with natural pink undertones, so the pink you are seeing is in reality her natural skin color. It's always challenging processing her photos due to her light skin. I do see that the first shot has a smidge of coolness to it, but it really is what she looks like ... The jammies are bazooka bubble gum pink too. I might warm it up a smidge, but in my opinion, the re-edit has too much yellow ... neither her skin tone nor the clothing are true to life.

It’s a really nice photo.

The only thing that bothers me here is your disclaimer about how the photo was done quickly and blah blah blah, as if to pre-emptively fend off harsh criticism. Why? I say, If you like it, post it loud and proud.

As a matter of personal taste, I’ll choose a photo like this over somebody posing and saying “cheeeeeeese” any day of the week. I’m not saying posed shots don’t have their time and place, I’m simply saying that, in my experience (which admittedly isn’t extensive), the only way to truly capture a person’s quiddity is to photograph them candidly. I think this is especially true of children, because most of them look pretty ridiculous when they try to force a smile.

I actually agree with your comment about these types of photos vs. posed. I prefer them as well. I have two kids and some of my faves are non-posed, heck they're not even looking at the camera in some of them.

I just wanted to add that I did not post a disclaimer. I was just stating the conditions this photo was taken under, nothing more.
I did this because I have seen photos posted here, as well as other boards, where a photo was posted and was critiqued in ways which were not relevant to the nature of the shot.
Such as the hair not being perfectly combed, or the outfit ... or whatever else that has no relevance to a candid photo.

I love CC, and always ask for it and appreciate it. I have never felt the need to fend off harsh criticism; I just appreciate it more when the CC takes into account the nature of the shot.
