LOL, no kidding...I'm certain this is the same female anole living among our purple hearts under our live oak from from last year. I was just "putsing" around outside with my coffee cup...enjoying the cooler evening and there she was, resting on a purple heart leaf. It was late in the evening so I had little ambient, plus she was a few feet into the flower bed so it was somewhat difficult to shoot hand-held. Captured with a Canon 30D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro and this DIY Ring-Flash, as if you couldn't tell huh? All at ISO 320/400, f/7-8, ~1/50sec, flash, and hand-held: #1 #2 #3 #4, I actually used a 12mm ext-tube on this shot...only one I got before she ran off. -Roy
They aren't bad shots, but I feel that the DOF is a bit too shallow. But, this may be due to the little ambient light you said you had. But, you did keep the eye(s) sharp in all of them, so that's a huge plus. Good series.
Thanks Trenton...yep...DOF is very shallow...but it is due to the trade-off of lower noise at 400 ISO vs. higher noise at 800/1000 ISO and more DOF. I usually shoot f/8-f/12 under normal ambient light conditions with flash. -Roy
