What's new

My image files are too big

Usually alot of software has an "Export" option in which it allows you to change the file size, or even "File Save As"

For instance, even with MS Windows it has a MS Office Picture Manager
You can do File, Export .. and change file types and file size bu widthxheigth, or file size

In Adobe LightRoom you have more controls too

Will my picture lose detail if i downsize it?

Change to a lower file compression in your camera you must have it set on fine.

When you export it save it as a new name. Such as
MyPicture.jpeg
MyPicture_1.jpeg

so you still have the original

when you export it to a much small format it of course will affect overall quality.
There are normally controls for quality, size and stuff like that so you can control some of that. But if it's a 12MB file and you want to make a 700kb file it has to loose something to be reduced so much.

You can also set the JPEG file size and quality and your camera.

I see, i don't want to compromise quality. What if i crop this picture?

I've gotten it down to much lower.

I put them side by side with the original. I don't see any differences in quality.

Actually, i've been wondering about that program. Is that what others use to configure their raw files?

Zoom-in in your Crop and Zoom in in your original and then compare.
IT all depends upon how "small" you need to make it.

Lightroom is a very nice program for post processing your RAW files. I'm just a beginner at it though and don't know much. I know enough to be dangerous.
Photoshop can also do it, as I'm sure many other software packages. But I think LR (LightRoom) has many lense configurations where it can correct lense issues .. but don't take my word on it I'm not sure how to do that yet or if it's automatic or not.

cute little guy you have there

Lightroom 5 has 7 modules - Library, Develop, Map, Book, Slideshow, Print, and Web.
You can download and try Lightroom at no charge for 30 days.

Lightroom's Develop module is the one that uses Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), which is Adobe's Raw converter, to edit images.
ACR is also included with Photoshop CC as Camera Raw and a de-featured version of ACR (Camera Raw) is included with the consumer grade Photoshop Elements.
