What's new

My Nikon people.....

Broad sweeping amounts of bull$hit being spread by the Canon camp..... Hmmmm, could it be due mainly to an inferiority complex or penis envy... whichever.

As mentioned already, the best performance of the camera, regardless of brand, is determined by the 12 inches behind the viewfinder.

It is a lot of research, but actually putting a few of them in your little mitts will give you a better idea. Which one feels the best? That's a definite clue of which way to lean.

Just for the sake of redundancy, they can all take good photos.

OP - there is no camera that is going to satisfy you. How many deals and packages have forum members put together for ya, recommendations, etc. etc. - nothing anyone posts is going to be able to definitively answer whether or not you should get Item X. At some point you have to make your OWN decision, unless you just want to buy the camera and put it in the hands of someone else.

Just buy a camera already and start shooting.

Personally, I LOVE Canon, they make such a fantastic body and great lenses, however I'm drawn to Nikon. It's just what I use, what I feel right with and simply what comes easiest to me. I completely agree with ANDS!, go out and fiddle with a few and see what fits you right. Don't get the most expensive out there by any means, there is a hierarchy you need to realize here. First you need to develop yourself as a photographer, you yourself will never be better then the camera, but when the time is right you will feel yourself limited by the glass. When you start playing around with lenses and filters, you will be deep enough to know when the body is limiting you which is a level most of us will probably never get to unless you just have a low-end body.

If you want to go with Nikon and you don't have a lot of money to spend, the D40 is limited but still a good entry level camera. If you have the money, I'd jump anywhere from the D60 to the D90, but I wouldn't go over a D90 until you get things figured out or you'll just be wasting money. If your auto focus isn't an issue, the lenses from the D40 to the D3 or D700 are all interchangeable.

PLEASE correct me if you find that I'm incorrect on anything I've said here. I'm learning myself but this is what I have come to realize on my own at least.

Here are two shots from my D80 with my kit lens (18-135). They're not the greatest but this is my first SLR and I've only had the camera for a few months at this point.

I know this topic has been discussed sooooo many times its not even funny. There is no real good answer for this. Look at the lenses that each manufacture offers and see which line will work best for you and the photography you take. Your best bet is to get your hands on the models that you are considering and get a feel for them. See which fits best in your hand how the controls work and which you are more comfortable with. If you can find a place that rents them rent each for a day and compare.

Coming from someone with 60 days........ that says a lot. (lurking time not accounted for) The search function located in the upper right of your window does wonders.

Yeah but it gives those of us who have been here for less than 5 hours to talk about, and the rest of you something to ***** about. HA! I like these smileys. :greenpbl:

You act as though this is the only Photo forum where this conversation takes place :lmao: I have yet to be a member of any photo forum where that conversation has not happened.
