LOL. You know, from what I have seen, we (in the US) almost always use the cheapest locks you can get, and for the most part they are insanely easy to pick. The whole locksport thing has really opened my eyes as far as how much we take security for granted in the US.

Good locks aren't cheap, and that just isn't an expense many people are willing to justify...

Have a look at the Abloy Protec line - expensive, but worth it. That is as close to "unpickable" as you are going to get.

yup. Heck, just a broken-key extractor comes in handy from time to time. I always have my set with me.

What, like hacking stuff? I think you might be surprised (maybe not) that the locksport community is largely made up of IT professionals. People into internet/computer security who developed an interest in physical security. The two aren't so far removed...

No point in spending a ton on a high end lock when the bad guys can just kick the door in. Truth is, most picked locks are picked by locksmiths and enthusiasts. Actual criminals just smash stuff, or move on to the next door until they find one that's not locked.

True, but real security is a 'system', not just a lock. The lock is often not the weakest point.

A good lock won't do much good if the door can be opened with a well placed kick...

I'll agree with that amolitor, to a point. The sneaky high end criminals want a consistent flow of "income" remember...haha
