My 5 year old daughter made me a special flower pot and planted me a flower for Mother's Day. I put my son in his "Bumbo" seat and was just inside doing dishes. (my deck is right outside my kitchen...no worries) My daughter says later that she put the plant in front of him because she thought he needed something to look at and was bored. :D I came out and found this and like a bad mommy who is obsessed with her camera and taking photos, I let him have a little fun before I retrieved the plant. Ideally, I would usually take into consideration this busy background but given I had no idea this would amount to a photo shoot I decided to just do the best with what I had because I didn't want to change or disrupt. I shot pretty wide open to blur the ugly background as much as possible. Clearly I'm not a germaphobe!

I love #2 with his dirty little fingers! Maybe a black and white conversion to help with the background? Although the bright colors of the pot/plant/bumbo are great. Either way, a great family keepsake!

Yes, deff. #2, FTW!

What a sweet memory!! Great capture mama! It reminds me of some I've got of my babies. Both knocked over the SAME plant at practically the SAME age and both dirt on their faces. My mom had to do a double take because she thought it was my first sons picture. They grow so fast *tear* of corse, mine aren't as "picture perfect" as yours are! They were just quick snaps.

Derrel....lol what is FTW? (pardon my un-swaggy-ness'..(swaggy...as my step daughter would say-she's 13)?? JustJazzie...don't be so hard on yourself! We are all our worst critics!! But, yes...they grow so fast. He is my first boy and I am treasuring having some unique and new experiences with him!!

I actually did convert to B&W on my comp...but decided not to post.

FTW = For The Win :D

I also love #2 :D great job Erica

Like everyone else I like #2.
I think you shot much too wide open.
The background is OOF but so is much of the important parts of the scene. At f2 the dof is about 3" thus throwing lots of important stuff (and the background) OOF)

If you do some looking around at dofmaster.com, you can see that even at f8, the dof is only about 1 foot and you would then be at the best part of that len's resolving ability and his entire hand and the flower pot would be in focus.

good point and thanks Paige!! Yeah..I was pretty close and pretty wide open. The covered grill was right before him and so not photogenic so I tried to minimize the chaos as much as possible.

yes, unfortunately your aperture was too wide open and so vital detail got lost.
I miss the days when lenses were marked with dof scales.
