Cute cats. Why did you buy your DSLR and what types of photographs do you think you'd like to take?

Thank you, they were rescues, mom cat had 4 kitties and at that time there was a tropical storm coming so i took them in, got 3 of them adopted and stayed with the 2. I always wanted a dslr , i love the way the pictures come out and got it for a good price. i would like to take night pictures and animals.

Obligatory cat photos from a new camera. Cool!

Advice: read the manual to get familiar with the camera and practice all the features and functions.

oh yes, my dogs wont stay still long enough. I am reading the manual now, and also bout 4 hour of videos on YouTube. so many thing a camera can do

As Ron indicated, composition in photographs is a fundamental skill to learn. In addition to your manual which you should read many times to help you learn your camera inside and out, there are a ton of useful resources on the internet to learn about using a DSLR. Night photos are great, but you'll need something to hold the camera still. So you'll need to invest in a good quality tripod. Don't skimp on price. The tripod legs generally come separate from the tripod head which holds the camera in place. You can expect to spend about $200+ on a good quality tripod + head. Here are some good quality tripod legs and heads to consider:

thank you very much, exelent reading and information. Good thing you told me about the tripod, i was about to go get a $39.99 one.

thank you.

Night photography is great fun. I would start off on aperture priority just to get a feel for the right exposure times but you'll be on manual after just a few minutes!

Don't. Cut. Ears. Off.

Cats have ears for a reason and they are important to them. They should be important to you and not hacked off when you take a portrait of them.

here in Florida vets will cut the tip of the left ear off of a female feral or stray cat to indicate it has been spayed (to spare it from an unnecessary further surgeries).

They are actually delish deep fried, so remove them tenderly and season well.
