Mysterious object in its natural habitat, and in my studio.

I ran across this thing the other day while I was walking around with my macro lens. I thought it looked quite intriguing, so I shot it..brought it home..and shot it some more. Here are the results. I couldnt decide between the two in either set, so I just posted all four.
