Hi everyone,

beginner here.
having issues color grading DNG files.
using darktable for the moment as it's free.

DNG files generated from raw video files using Xiaomi 14 ultra phone with motioncam app.
Don't manage to bring the DNG to a proper normal color and recover the focus. See cropped part from original photo below as example.
Did I overexposed while filming and DNG file unusable ? or I'm just not getting on how to use darktable properly?

original file DNG file in attach to this post.

Can anyone take a look and let me know?

Thank you!

Yes, the DNG contains a lot of overexposure. Here's the image in an analysis app that shows the overexposure: Solid red and all channels of DNG are blown. Dithered red and one or more channels of the DNG are blown. You've got a lot of dynamic range in this image from the planter lower left corner to the whites in the bright sun. As a result the darker areas are quite noisy. I know very little about video and will devote some of the rest of my life to unlearn what I do know so I don't know how that might mess with your exposure, but the 14 ultra has a base ISO of 50 and this photo was taken as ISO 125. Given nothing is moving a shutter speed of 1/2000 sec, was unnecessary and could have been dropped so that a lower ISO could be used and that would reduce the noise.

The example you showed looks like you haven't applied DarkTable's noise filtering. DarkTable isn't great at noise filtering but it will help some.

I processed* the image for you using ON1 and applied their noise filtering which is decent. Here's that image:
