Need ideas/focusing help

Well, I went back to the beach and have quite a few ducks and geese in focus and the edges are sharp. The lighting was much better which helped. I still need to play to get consistently good pictures. I also just got my monopod so hope to play. This lens definately needs light.

Just an update. Lens works better in good light. I also took the UV filter off. I think this was on "one shot" instead of AI Servo (going between landscape and ducks sometimes I forget to change things). I had a whole bunch of crisp shots.
