In reference this image.
It's not enough to have a subject sharp and in good exposure - as this one is.
You have to understand what the viewer sees and what impression he/she gets from your your picture.
The man-of-war is 'upside-down' by conventional view and squashed between top and bottom margins while there is space on either side.
Why is that the viewer will think? is this a mistake?
You don't want to get the viewer thinking about anything but what you present.
I inverted the image and reversed it so the entry is from left to right. Westerners read that way and so their eyes enter the image that way.
Then I added some ocean and cropped it so that the picture was upright (portrait aspect ratio).
Now viewers can look at the pictures and not be struck by the way the MoW is squashed against the margin or why it's 'upside down.'
Its, IMO, easier to see and appreciate.
