I have a Ricoh XR-M. The battery indicator said they were dead, so I changed them. Twice. Each time, I used brand new batteries. Each time, the low battery warning came on within a few minutes. The film wouldn't advance, and things began to shut down/flicker on the screen.

Is this thing dead? If so, that's fine. Tell me the truth, doc -- I can take it.

I have a Canon AE-1 that did the same thing. I sent it off for a cleaning/repair. For under $50 I got it back and it's working nicely.

Get an battery tester that isn't in the camera and use that for testing because if its the camera thats not working you'll know.
